For the practice that just got our envelope
That little slate is yours to keep. The next ones are for your families.
We mailed it without asking, and we hope you'll forgive that. Here's the idea behind it: every family you serve goes home with one of these, their pet's portrait cut into stone and your name on the back. You add the family in thirty seconds. We get the photo, make it, and send it back to you in time.
No contract, no minimums, no setup fee. Month to month, and you can stop with one email.
The included keepsake
One small stone for every family. From you.
You're already giving these families something: a card, a clay paw print, flowers. This is the thing they keep. It goes home with the ashes or arrives with your follow-up visit, and it sits on a shelf with your name on it for the next ten years.
- The frontThe pet's portrait, engraved from a family photo. No photo, no problem: we cut a name and dates design instead, and it still looks like it was meant to be.
- The back"With sympathy from" and your practice name. Our name isn't on it.
- The size4 by 4 inches of natural slate. Small enough to hand over, heavy enough to feel like it matters.
- Inside the boxA small card with your practice code, so the family can order extra copies for relatives or a larger piece later. You earn 20% when they do.
- If anything's wrongA wrong name or a chipped corner, we cut it again and ship it free. No forms.
How it works
Nobody asks a family for a photo in the hardest moment.
-
You add the family
A bookmarked page on your front desk or in the van. Pet's name, the family's first name, their mobile, and a checkbox that they're OK with one text. About thirty seconds. If they already sent you a photo, attach it and we won't contact them at all.
-
We send one gentle text, a couple of days later
Never that day, never early or late. They reply with a favorite photo, the same way they'd send one to a friend. Or they reply SKIP. Either way, that's the only time they hear from us.
Example Hi Sarah, this is Lost Hills Customs, working with your practice. We're making a small stone keepsake in Bella's memory. If you'd like Bella's portrait on it, just reply with a favorite photo. Reply SKIP and we'll engrave her name and dates instead. -
It comes back to you in one weekly box
No photo within three days, we engrave the name and dates so nothing runs late. Everything ships together on a day we set around your return schedule, so each slate goes home with the remains.
Rather not share client phone numbers? That's fine. Skip the number, and the page hands you a ready-to-send message with the family's own photo link. Send it from your system when it feels right.
Why it pays for itself
One slate. A different reason for each of you.
In-home euthanasia
You're there for the goodbye, and this is the last thing you leave them with. At $12 it's a small slice of a visit fee, and it's the part families tell their friends about when they recommend you.
Crematoriums
Build it into private cremation and raise the package $15 to $25. It costs you $12. It also gives families a reason to ask their vet for you by name.
Veterinary clinics
Replace the condolence flowers. A slate costs less than a bouquet and outlasts it by a decade, with your clinic's name on it, in the home of a family that will need a vet for their next pet.
Pricing
One flat price per family.
Everything's included: the engraving, gift-ready packaging, your family cards, weekly shipping, and any remakes. One invoice at the end of each month for the families you served. No setup fee, no minimum, no contract.
Get set upWhen a family wants more
The slate opens the door. You earn on what's behind it.
Some families will want something bigger, often weeks later. Each slate goes home with a small card that has your practice code on it. When a family orders from it, you earn 20% of the order, taken off your next invoice. Or, if you'd rather, give that 20% to your families as a discount instead. You don't sell anything, handle anything, or bring it up. The card does the asking.
Extra copies of their slate
The easiest yes. There's almost always a sibling, a grown kid, or the person who couldn't be there that day who wants one too. Same portrait, same stone, shipped straight to them. Or a family set: two more slates and a wallet-size card for $45.
Portrait memorial
Their pet's face on a 12 by 12 plate, with three small slates alongside. The one most families pick, and honestly our favorite thing to make.
Collar display
A case built around the collar, with an engraved plate and three slates. Nearly everyone keeps the collar. This gets it out of the drawer.
Granite marker, for outside
For families who want to mark the spot rather than the shelf. Flat granite sits flush in the ground, takes a name and a portrait, and doesn't care about sun or frost because the engraving is cut into the stone. Heavier and slower than slate, so plan on about a week and a half.
Get set up
Takes two minutes. Your first family can go out this week.
We'll send your intake link and set your ship day, usually the same day. You'll hear back from one of us, not a system.

Fair questions
Things you might be wondering.
Why did I get a package I didn't order?
We'd rather spend our marketing money on a real piece of slate to show you what we can do than on ads. You're on our list because you handle pet aftercare. Nobody sold us your info. Keep the slate either way.
What does my staff actually do?
Add each family on one bookmarked page: pet's name, family's first name, mobile, and a checkbox. About thirty seconds. Nobody logs in, nobody chases photos, and nobody has to bring it up in the room.
Do we have to share client phone numbers?
No. If a family is OK with one text, check the box and we'll send it. If not, or if your policy says no, leave the number blank and you'll get a ready-made message with the family's photo link to send from your own system.
What if a family never sends a photo?
After three days we engrave a name and dates design, so the slate still ships on time. They never get a second message from us.
Will it be back before the remains go home?
We set your weekly ship day around your return schedule. Tell us your usual turnaround, and add the "going home" date for any family who's on a tighter timeline.
How does billing work?
One invoice at the end of each month: $12 for each family you served that month. Your 20% from family orders comes off the same invoice, and it comes with a short recap of families served and anything they ordered. If it isn't working, stop with one email.
We're not comfortable earning on grieving families. Can we skip that?
Of course, and plenty of practices feel the same way. Choose "give it to our families" at signup and the 20% becomes a discount on anything they order from the card. You don't take a cut, and families pay less.
Where did you get our logo, and where does it go?
Off your website. On the sample it's on the front so you could see how it cuts. On anything a family takes home, it's your name, small on the back. The front belongs to the pet. If your logo came out rough, send a better file and we'll redo the sample free.
We're part of a larger group. Can we try one location?
Yes. Start with one site, and after the first month we'll put together a one-page results summary for you to take to the rest of the group.
Please don't mail me again.
Send a note to losthillscustoms@gmail.com and you're off the list for good. No hard feelings.
